Plants of Washington

An astounding internet resource I discovered today: the WTU Plants of Washington Image Collection. The collection contains over 12,000 photographs, covering about two thirds of the 3,200 plant species found in Washington State. You can browse the collection by family, genus, or name — but here’s the best part: it’s searchable by attributes like leaf type, flower color, and habitat. This will come in handy for identifying the specimens you saw on that last hike.

That’s a sweet site – thanks! My wife rousted me out just this afternoon to photograph some wild lilies that she had seen in someone’s yard, but we couldn’t find them via Google. This site resolved it in seconds.

that’s amazing. I was always so jealous of the kids who took plant systematics when we’d go on hikes together.
