A Little Bit Oscar

Seattle has a claim to Oscar fame today, and Washington has two, and one is a big one. In the “did you know…?” category:
* Jonathan Myhre is a Seattle native who graduated from Nathan Hale High School (he won Best Art Direction, along with Gretchen Rau, for Memoirs of A Geisha)
* Colleen Atwood, winner for Best Costume Deign (also for Geisha) is from Eastern Washington

But the big news of the evening was Robert Altman announcing to the world that, 10 years ago, he had a heart transplant. Backstage, Altman explained that there is a stigma to illness in Hollywood, and revealed that his heart came from the Tacoma area of Washington.

Here’s hoping the family that made the decision 10 years ago saw Mr. Altman last night, heard his backstage comments, and know that the person who received their gift is truly, truly grateful.
