Concert: The Tiptons Sax Quartet
The Tiptons Sax Quartet, the best (and possibly only) all-female jazz band of four sax players and one percussionist, are playing the Tractor Tavern on Sunday, January 29 at 8 PM. Tickets are either $8 or $10 at the door, depending on which sign you read.
They’re playing in support of their newest album, “Drive.” Their compositions are intricate jazz masterworks, they play with energy and precision, and they have a nearly unique sound. Go check them out.

I first heard the Tiptons at Bumbershoot in the late 90s. Loved it, and looked forward to tracking them. Never heard much from them, but caught on to Living Daylights with Jessica Lurie, and we stalked them for years to the OK Hotel, Tractor, Sit & Spin and several times in Ashland, OR. I’ve also seen Sue Orfield with PK & Whose Army. They’re great musicians. If I get my work done tomorrow, I’m definitely there.
I see Sue Orfield’s not in the latest incarnation. Amy Denaio also played with PK & Whose ARmy, though. And Libitz just rocks.
