the forecast

The most popular Seattle-weather-related phrase: “It doesn’t actually rain all that much here.” The second most popular Seattle-weather-related phrase: “It’s been unusually dry this [month/season/year].” Perhaps we’ll be hearing them a little less often this winter: apparently it’s just going to keep on raining.

Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain! I’m glad that all those lovely Ride in the Rain participants will get good and wet this year.

However, while we Seattleites may pride ourselves on being able to handle a little rain (or a lot, for that matter), the USGS is concerned that continued rain will trigger mudslides. It’s already begun: a series of slides has affected rail service in the region.

Yeah, this is the second time Amtrak has been shut down by slides since Christmas; the first affected passenger rail from Portland. It is, sadly, keeping me in Seattle - I teach on Mondays, and can’t afford to get stuck away from Seattle due to mudslides!

Today I was in Lowe’s when I overheard a guy, clearly from out of town, say “You know, I’ve been here a week now, and all it’s done is rain. Does it ever let up?”

    Heh.
