Worthy Causes

Speaking of worthy causes, Northwest Harvest is definitely one of them. So are Real Change and Farestart which help the homeless of Seattle. You’ve probably seen Real Change dealers selling their papers on street corners and in front of supermarkets like the PCC and Trader Joe’s. These people are trying to turn their lives around. Give them your support by paying a dollar for their very interesting and well written newspaper. And read it! ‘Tis the season!

Farestart is a remarkable organization. It’s one of the few organizations I can feel really good about supporting. It seems like a win-win for everybody. Founded by a chef, Farestart has trained over 1500 homeless in culinary skills. Over 80% of students are placed and, at the end of one year, 80% are still on the job. Farestart jumpstarts new lives for homeless people, provides over 2,000,000 meals to homeless and others, and runs a training restaurant supported by all the great restaurants and chefs in Seattle. If you are looking for a good year-end tax deduction, this is it. Check it out at: www.farestart.org.
