Colonnade + Real World mashup
Josh’s post about the new housing for hard-core alcoholics made me click through to the Windows Live map (neé VirtualEarth) and realize that it’s located right near the entrance to Colonnade Park.
What’s interesting about this juxtaposition is the stated goal for the new park (which lies underneath I-5) is to ‘reclaim’ that space for those who live nearby. Viz:
Juxtapose this with the blunt language from the Times about the new apartment initiative:
Does this possibly complicate the high hopes the city has for the park? Or will it prove to be a sucessful space that all residents of Eastlake enjoy? There were lots of new, upscale townhouses in that area when I visited the opening of Colonnade Park. How do the owners they feel about this apartment initiative? Are they as committed as the business owners quoted in the Times to making the project work?

Well, I was fine with an apartment full of friendly local alcoholics being housed half a block away from my apartment, up until Josh invoked the horror of “reality television.” I believe that people can change, because I am a foolish girl, and I really hope the project will work out well.
I’m not too worried about the impact it’ll have on the park, though. It’s pretty brightly lit at night from the grow lights, and it’s not like there’s a whole lot there to be messed with, anyway. Hard to muck up mud.
well, the tenants are only allowed to drink inside the apartment building; so the park should be safe.
