New baby otter = cuter than cute

On Tuesday evening, Seattle’s sea otter population increased by one. Lootas, who has previously given birth to three other pups, was delivered of her new baby at 5:25 pm. Both mother and baby–whose gender is currently undetermined–are doing well.

Both otter parents are rescue otters. The mother was found as a baby in Alaska after her mother was killed by a powerboat. The father, Adaa, was also rescued from Alaska after he was found suffering from hypothermia on an airport runway.

As long as everything continues to go well, the public will be able to see the new baby soon, albeit from some number of feet away to avoid stressing the wee thing out.

Sea Otters are currently a threatened species down in California, and the rest of the world’s population is still recovering from the years when they were hunted nearly to extinction. The NPCA has all the information on sea otters that you might ever need.
