Seahawks dine on Eagles

I am generally not a pro-sports watcher - Go Huskies (7-0) [espn]! - but did everyone get a load of the super crazy blow-out on Monday Night Football last night? [espn] Who knew the Seahawks were so good and that the Eagles were so bad? Sure, I’ve heard a lot of Owens [espn] and McNabb news [espn] in the background recently, but HOLY CRAP. 42-0? FORTY-TWO to ZERO?!

And the worst thing is, I couldn’t stop watching. It was like a train-wreck, so sickly fascinating that I couldn’t turn it off. I kept waiting to see if there would be a record number of defensive touchdowns. Or if the Eagles could get ANYTHING together. But it never happened. Snow fell, boos were heard, the stands emptied, and they never could pull it together to score once. Even in the last two seconds of the game, the ball was dropped on practically the goal line. Wow. Go Seahawks defense. Way to make a point.

But now here’s the rub. Should we in Seattle get hopeful? Or will that jinx everything? Being semi-new to the area, I don’t know the protocol. Should I only be pessimistically hopeful? Someone please school me - but not as brutally as the Eagles were last night.

Now’s the time if any to get hopeful! I’ve been a diehard fan for my entire life and I’ve never seen them play this well. Go ‘Hawks!

Reality looms in the form of the Indianapolis Clots.

    The Clots, Phil? I like that…. ;)

42-0 when the Eagles are much like Green Bay this year, playing without a coherant team because much of their first line is out injured, isn’t much to write home about, and the ‘hawks nearly biffed it big time last week. With near-disasters requiring major good karma to help them win a game necessary, their Super Bowl chances look mighty grim. And yeah, when you get right down to it, Indianapolis is going to steamroll ‘em.

It’s really hard to get on the band wagon with the Seahawks or Seattle professional teams in general. In part due to lack of national exposure. Interesting that Shawn Alexander in the opening segment of the game Monday night was based on the majority of the country not having a clue who he is. If more of the Seahawks games were aired nationally, perhaps more people would seriously consider them a contender. Until they win a play-off game and gain more national exposure , they’re going to continue to be off the radar.

Their reality check will be the Colts.
