Cats in the Doghouse?

It’s really happening. The Space Needle is being painted red and grey. WSU won the fundraiser by over $30,000. [p-i] Photo by Mike Siegel, Seattle Times

On the one hand, the contest was for charity, which kind of quashes a lot of complaints, at least in my book. ( I guess it’s not much consolation that this competition happened at the same time as UWs Combined Charity Drive.)

On the other hand, this has quite an impact on the view! Remember that tribute to the original salmon color? Though I appreciated the idea, I never really got used to it. It just wasn’t flattering.

But Cougar colors are going to make an even bigger impact in purple-and-gold country. It’s a bit of a morale-buster for the Apple Cup game happening under that banner this Saturday. I’m not even into sports, but it’s hard to ignore the little streak of Husky Pride that has seeped in since I made Seattle my home (and UW my employer)!

Overall, the combined donation to Habitat for Humanity was $164,293.62. For two opposing teams from opposing schools on opposing sides of the state – that’s what I call teamwork.

Yeah, WSU didn’t have a competing fundraiser going on, so… it’s not a huge surprise, when you consider that. But hey, $164,293.62… and I’ll be out of town for the rest of the horror. ;)

(I’m not a sports fan, but yeah… it’s hard to not feel Husky pride!)

Yes, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it…
