Sitting in a dark room for literacy

Back in September, we here in Seattle raised a whole bunch of money for 826 Seattle [m-b]. That was one of the most amazing evenings of my year (it was my birthday, for goodness sakes!), but we all know that doing nice things for free costs money. And so now I’m going to invite you to another benefit for our friends over at 826.

The folks at The Fucking Fabulous Film Festival are proving just how fabulous they happen to be by adding a screening of the movie “As Smart as They Are: The Author Project” to their Sunday roster. All proceeds are going to go straight to 826.

The movie is a collaboration between a bunch of authors and One Ring Zero, the house band for McSweeney’s. Authors like Paul Auster, Jonathan Lethem, and Rick Moody apparently write lyrics that the band then sets to music. (This is, I hear, the way songs are usually written.) The film, “Features live performances, studio sessions, and lots of interviews, plus insight into the hipper side of New York’s literary community [#].”

If you think you can stand the hipper side of New York’s literary community, the screening will be held at The RUNG Theatre on 1136 S. Albro Pl [#]. Tickets are $6, the screening starts at 4:00, and they recommend that you get there early because shows tend to sell out.
