MetroKC Rosa Parks Memorial

King County Metro Transit has placed Rosa Parks memorial stickers on the first seat on the right hand side of the bus (on entry). I just noticed them today, and am noticably not observant, so I have no idea how long they’ve been there.

You guys have any clue? And what do you think about it? On the one side, it’s kind of neat…on the other? I’m not sure I see the point.

The King County Council passed a resolution last Monday to urge Metro to recognize Rosa Parks contributions to the struggle for civil rights. The stickers and bus cards (the ads above your head) will be up until December 1, the day Rosa refused to give up her seat. They were put in most buses over the weekend.

I think this is a fitting memorial and a reminder of how far we still have to go in this country towards equality for all.

I think the idea is that that seat is Rosa Park’s on each bus (it’s always the most forward seat) and you aren’t supposed to sit there. I have loved watching people’s ractions to the sticker.
My favorite is people who sit next to the Rosa Park’s seat in a reverential way.
