The Five Point: Good Sober, Too!

I admit that in the almost-three-years of my life in Seattle I had never, before Thursday night, been to the Five Point before 1 a.m. I had also never been there without having already consumed an indiscriminate amount of alcohol beforehand. But after my stint as doorgirl/bouncer at a First Thursday event [m-b], we found ourselves hungry and decided to head over to the Five Point for something greasy to eat.

Now, I’m not going to extol the virtues of the Five Point, most of which have to be seen to be believed anyway. No, what I’m here to tell you about are their “new” fried macaroni and cheese wedges. We were all baffled by the concept of a wedge of fried macaroni and cheese, and after a little bit of hemming and hawing admitted that we each really wanted to try them. Would it be like a macaroni and cheese pie? How do you wedge mac and cheese? We were dying to find out.

And boy howdy, did we make the right choice. What came out on a plate with some tangy marinara sauce was a stack of individually fried two-bite sized triangles of macaroni and cheese, along the same lines as fried mozzarella, only even more delicious. Exclamations went up all around the table, along the lines of, “Holy crap! These are so good!” We liked them so much that we seriously discussed stopping to get some again on our way back from West Seattle last night. I imagine that, inebriated, these things would approach a religious experience. I’m just saying.

It had been a while since I’d been to the Five Point, so I’m not sure how new the macaroni and cheese wedges are, but what I am sure of is that everyone needs to try them.

The Five Point can be found at 415 Cedar, downtown.

I’ll have to try this place out. Worthy greasy food is well worth the effort to find. Alas, Seattle seems to be slowly losing it’s good greasy diners. Does anyone remember the name of the diner out north of Greenlake? It was a legendary Seattle landmark when I first visited the city in the early 90′s.

TonyD: Maybe you’re thinking of Beth’s Cafe?

I think the last time I was there some man may have called me a cunt because he perceived that I was in his way. I almost bitched him out, but then I looked at the men that I was with, and decided they might not have appreciated me starting a fight.

Heh, no, I was with a bunch of people and we were just splitting appetizers. Next time, though. (Maybe.)
