First Thursday: Rapidly Approaching

The artist lofts at 619 Western are always my favorite stop during the First Thursday walk, and not just because people I know (or, once, myself) tend to have work showing there. I love the building’s spiral staircase, and I love that you never know what you’ll find through each doorway. A burlesque? A photo collection of rock stars? An installation made of cheese? Any and all of these are possible.

The 5th floor of the building on the left side hosts the Art Squad studios. Art Squad doesn’t open up for every First Thursday–they tend to go for about every other month. And this month is one of them. Yes, two of my very close friends are showing there on Thursday, but from what I saw while we were hanging photos the other day the gallery would be worth a stop regardless. Planet Janet and Lee Dicks Clark will be showing along with my friends Caroline Colon and Cat Koehn. There will also be free wine and snacks and colorful folks of all sorts.
