Sino-Iberian Syncretism: Jack’s Mainly Chinese Tapas Cafe?

點心 vs. Tapas: Fight!

We saw this sign on the Ave and 52nd St this evening and wondered why tapas would be a better choice than dim sum as the shorthand for small portions of Chinese food. Anyone tried this place out?

All I know is that it’s standing in the storefront where my favorite Mexican joint used to be :(

Where will I go for chipotle nachos at midnight NOW?

I haven’t been inside. It might be time for a special Metroblogging Investigates! feature. Is the food fusion or just the name?

I just tried it last night, and it’s pretty good!

It’s not fusion at all, they have a lot of the Chinese “fun stuff”, including sea cucumbers, pig ears, tongue… They have both ‘tapas’ and more familiar-sized dishes, like hand shaved noodles, braised dishes and stir fries. The tapas are referring to mostly cold appetizers (not dim sum), like “10 vegetarian delicacies” (lightly marinated shreds of vegetables, mushrooms, tofu-type-stuff, etc), various cold sliced animal parts, a couple dumplings. For entrees there are a few traditional Northern dishes that I haven’t seen elsewhere (this is definitely not a sweet and sour chicken kind of place).
