The first day of the rest of the season
I have strong feelings about many, many things. For example, I firmly believe that there is no sport greater than college ball. And by college ball, I hope you know I mean NCAA Division I, Men’s Basketball [#].
Oh the fast moving, anything can happen action, with actual students roaring in the stands. Players who care and put their 18-year-old hearts and souls into each game. Plus, there’s twice as many regular season games and a far more exciting national tournament than the stupid (toilet) bowl series. Seriously. The tournament makes people throw their car keys in the air and into oblivion. And that’s just my Reader’s Digest version for loving this completely spectacular sport.
And so on this, the first day of practice for the 2006 season, I’ve decided to embrace my new town and root for the Huskies. Of course I’ll have to keep my fingers in the ACC and Big East but I’ve always kept an eye on the Pac-10 and well, here’s my chance to dive right in (I’m not sure I’ve got enough metaphors there). Sure, the Huskies have lost some key players and although they’re not in ESPN’s pre-season top-25 [#], they did recieve enough votes for a mention right behind GW and NC State. I remain completely hopeful.
Oh I’m so excited. The first (exhibition) game is November 6, 2005. 23 days and counting!
