Eve must have used the Honey Crisp
People who’ve been living in the PNW for a while might not think this is exciting, but last Sunday they had an apple tasting at the West Seattle Farmer’s Market. Speaking as someone whose apple choices have always been: Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith and seasonally Gala and Fuji, an apple tasting is quite exotic. I had at least five varieties I’d never even heard of. Apparently, the tasting is touring the city’s markets this week [#] as are some hard ciders to keep you warm on these colder turning days. So get yourself down to the market.
Oh and while you’re there, can you think about apple recipes for me? I made this fabulous apple pie out of the Cook’s Illustrated last year, but I let my subscription slide and now I can’t find it. If anyone has a best recipe out there that they’d like to share, please email me (or you can place them in the comments). I’m thinking I’ll try them all and post the best one later on in the month. Thanks!

Devotion to the honey crisp apple is nearly cultlike, but it’s well deserved! How did the Red Delicious get its name when something so much more delicious is available in the Honey Crisp? It’s an outrage!
You’re so right. I have a budding Honey Crisp cultist in my own home. Despite my best efforts, no other apple varieties have been purchased since their discovery.
