flying fish

it’s a bird! it’s a plane! it’s a fish?
Alaskan Airlines is really into salmon. Way more than your stereotypical fish-loving Seattleite. You thought you were doing your part to support the fishing industry? Have you decorated your 747 with fish art? I didn’t think so. [alaskaair]
Speaking of Alaskan, for the record, they don’t want commercial passenger airlines to come to Boeing field. But just in case Southwest gets its way and is allowed to use it for their flights, Alaskan is getting a head start on securing a piece of the action to keep Southwest from having the place to themselves. Did you notice that they’re using taxpayer money to do the painting?

“A local nonprofit agency, the Alaska Fisheries Marketing Board, gave Alaska Airlines a $500,000 grant to paint the jet. The money came out of about $29 million in federal funding U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska and his congressional colleagues have appropriated to the marketing board, created in 2003, to promote and enhance the value of Alaska seafood. The senator’s son, state Sen. Ben Stevens, is chairman of the agency’s board of directors.”
Awesome!
oh, Alaska! They sure do know how to get their share of pork barrel spending up there, don’t they?
Yes, but you missed the best part about it - it’s call the Salmon Thirty Salmon!
(I saw it Friday, and there’s a big write-up of it in Alaska’s in flight magazine…)
