Small Rock returns to Seattle
Mike Doughty is always amazing live, and live is just what he’s going to be at the Showbox on Monday, October 3.
I admit that I’m a total fangirl–this will be my third Mike Doughty show this year, if you count his Bumbershoot appearance. I do love the songs, the phrases that come straight out of his journals. But for me, the best part of a Mike Doughty live show is how natural and funny he is. The man seems completely at home on a stage.
This tour, for the new album “Haughty Melodic,” is his first with a full band since Soul Coughing split up in 2000 [bio]. (Handsome Dan, who toured with Doughty earlier this year, is along for the ride this time as well.) And I’m wondering what a whole band is going to be like, what it’s going to do to the usual feel of being in a room with a guy, a guitar, and a whole bunch of your best friends.
I was shopping at Nordstrom Rack not too long ago when I realized that the song that was playing in the store was a single from “Haughty Melodic,” and I still haven’t worked out how I feel about that. But I do know that listening to Mike Doughty always makes me happy, and as the clouds come back and our beloved rains roll in again, a little bit of happy is just what we need.
Doors for the show are at 7, tickets are $17.

WHAT?! OMG thank you for posting this! He is one of my favourite artists, by far, and I was so sad to miss him at Bumbershoot. I listen to the new album on a near-daily basis.
Purse, wallet, buying tickets now.
And Erin McKeown is opening, a very good singer-songwriter with a caramely voice.
Oh my god THANK YOU. That was… I met…
I so owe you a drink.
Hehe. Yeah. That pretty much rocked, didn’t it?
Yes, yes it did. I never knew those songs could be smashed up like that…
And meeting him? Holy crap. It took me hours to come down off that high!
