My son and I were just discussing this topic today (while driving back home from Lynnwood, no less) - he remarked that he thought our downtown was pretty dead. I brought up Belltown, but he felt that Vancouver had a much more robust nightlife scene. I haven't been there in 15 years, so I can't say whether this is a "grass is greener" lament, or if there's something organically different and more successful going on there.

I think our downtown is very successful as a daytime commercial center. I also think it's enviable as a residential location (at least, I envy those who can pay $1million for a Market condo). Where it's lacking, perhaps, and what my son was focusing on, is as a destination entertainment venue. The nighttime hotspots - Belltown, East Pike Street - are on the near periphery rather than the city center.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll think about attending.
