Happy Birthday, Market!

Today is the 98th birthday of Pike Place Market. Since I considered it so lovingly on Sunday, I’ve been hearing years of stories from people, of times they have been at the Market and felt alive. (And spent a lot of money at Sur La Table.) It makes me love the place even more.

If you love the Pike Place Market, and you don’t have to go to work today, then this is your lucky day. Today is the 98th birthday of the Pike Place Market. Can you believe they once considered tearing it down? Plebians. Well, anything you almost lose becomes even more beautiful. Celebrate by meandering down to the Market at noon, when the streets will be closed to traffic and de Sol will be playing.

No traffic and free music? Who could resist?

Well actually, I have to, because I’m teaching today. So if anyone goes, feel free to comment on the experience. Help us all share it.
