Cool fun in the hot summer sun

Have you had just a little too much heat this summer? I know that I sure have–today was a wonderful day for me, even if it was a bit grey–and I’m not alone. The Sumerian Tiger pictured at right and other friends at the Woodland Park Zoo enjoy a spot of heat relief, too. tiger.jpg

Thus has been created the Cool Blast at Woodland Park Zoo.

Each Friday from now through the start of September (that’s August 12, 19, 26 and September 2) the zookeepers at the WPZ provide the animals in their care with cool icy treats to celebrate the summer without overheating.

Scheduled treat times:

Penguins 11:00 - Penguin Pool

Grizzlies noon - Northern Trail, Taiga Viewing Shelter

Tigers 1:00 - Sumatran Tigers

Elephants 2:00 - Elephant Forest, Elephant Pool

Orangutans 3:00 - Trail of Vines, Boardwalk

While you’re there, purchase a small sno-cone and receive a zoo souvenir cup.

Having seen these animals fed many, many times, I can assure you that it’s a worthwhile experience to watch, particularly the elephants.
