Summer Weekends: Camping and Hiking in the Pacific Northwest

[skye:] During a recent Seattle metblogs Happy Hour, it was suggested that whereas in New York “you are what you wear” and in Chicago “you are what you eat,” here in Seattle “you are what you do on your summer weekends.” So, riffing on that idea, we’ve decided to interview each other and other locals about our summertime activities, using a simple five question format.

Here’s Cat’s interview to kick things off.

Cat grew up in the suburbs and has spent the rest of her life fleeing in opposite directions. She loves living in a city that has fast and easy access to amazing wilderness areas.

1) What’s your favorite summer activity?

Camping and hiking.

2) What’s your favorite place to camp or hike?

I really have to say again, I love those photos. I’m not a camper, but I may have to learn to be, just to see sights like this!

I think NYC is also about “what you do on the weekend,” at least during the summer. If you have money, you don’t stay in the city on weekends (or at all, if you really have money). And then, there is the hierarchy of where you go, if you do get out (i.e., the Hamptons v. the Jersey Shore).

I love this! I just moved to Seattle and a major reason was because I love camping and hiking. I will definitely have to check these out.
