weekly weekly report : highlights only edition

dancers vs. ex-cultists? where will you turn?
Bad news for the three of you who rely on this recurring obsessive rundown of what’s in the weeklies to determine which paper to use as your morning finger inking resource: due to the unfortunate realities of the pursuit of advanced degrees (i.e., a really big exam), this (and possibly next) week’s weekly weekly report is more of a highlights reel. Rather than put the thing on hiatus, a few random notes to get you through the dry spell.
The Stranger continues to meet it’s three article quota w/r/t the Microsoft Killed the Gay Rights Bill story, with a monorail and skate park feature thrown in for good measure. Funniest article is a three-way tie between Dan Savage, Dan Savage, and A. Birch Steen for their commentary on theater bios, pimp fantasies, and petticoat-revealing hoopskirts of yesteryear’s street dancers, respectively. Also of note: a name change for the New Mexicans (now Crutches) and a profile of mysterious (until now) new Broadway store, High Maintenance Bitch.
As for the Seattle Weekly: a lurid-looking cover story about cultists, an interview with Al Franken, an examination of “Rockism,” continued coverage of the neverending election and monorail “troubles.” This week is a double bonus for readers: different themes and no special pull out sections!
Summary measures: Number of overlapping main picks, 0; number of I Saw U advertisements about opening night at the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, 1 (the Stranger.
