With cops like these, who needs bad drivers?

I was driving down Bel-Red around midnight tonight (trying to widen my ecological footprint) when I happened to drive past a Bellevue police vehicle going the other way. It was driving sort of slowly, with the lights completely off, and I was baffled and remain baffled.

Can you “flash” a police car (flick your headlights off and on, to remind them to turn on their lights)?

Can they pull you over for speeding if they don’t have their headlights on? (Aren’t cop cars required to be visible if they’re doing a speed trap?)

Is this their idea of setting a good example?

Police will generally drive stealth when they are approaching a scene of interest (my term) so as not to scare off any potential arrestees. The fact he was driving slow makes me think he was pulling up to a reported B&E, car prowler or other similar crime.

wow, that’s pretty scary-exciting! This isn’t that far from where that “bank robbery” in overlake happened, so maybe the crime rate in Bellevue is escalating (that part isn’t so exciting). I’m going to have to check out the police blotter in the next “Bellevue Reporter” rag to see if they caught anyone.

Glad I didn’t flash him now, although, it sounds like he would have just ignored me.
