bling_04012005.jpgBy now you’ve probably read the news confirming the partial acquisition of metroblogging.com by resurgent moneybags Yahoo!. While we’ll certainly miss the days of scrappy upstart independence, the idea of going from impoverished ‘bloggers to well paid authors won out in the end.

Here at Seattle Metblogs HQ, the most noticeable change is that we’ll be working on secondary acquisitions. Tired of the inter-weekly squabbling, we have decided to facilitate a merger between the Stranger and the Seattle Weekly by leveraging our new cash flow. We’re shopping names for the new consolidated tabloid through focus groups (the Weekly Stranger is a current favorite). Like most mergers, this one will result in some redundancies. However, we plan to make the cutbacks as fair and entertaining as possible. Look for weekly cage matches as writers for the weekly papers go head to head to keep their precious jobs.

The obvious side benefit is that it will save us a lot of time when it comes around to the weekly weekly roundup feature.

Also, as Skye mentioned #], expect more free food and liquor at the monthly meetup happy hours. Rolling around in buyout money is no fun when you’re doing it alone. Drunk and well-fed are our favorite kind of readers.

UPDATE: this was an April Fool’s Related Posting Activity. We apologize for any confusion.
