Watching the Academy Awards is always a confusing experience. Who are these red carpet commentators and where do they hide during the other 364.25 days each year when they aren’t busy finding out who the beautiful people are wearing.

But the most confusing part is when they line up the nominees for short films up like beauty pageant contestants and hand out the Oscar without crowning a first runner up. Who will fill in if the winner can’t fulfill his of her duties?

Beyond this mystery is the one about people getting awards for movies that most people haven’t had the opportunity to see. Even though it won’t help you predict the winners in last month’s Oscar Pool, the Northweest Film Forum is showing many of the nominated live action and animated shorts this weekend.

Check out the program [#] and pay a visit to “Seattle’s non-profit cinematheque” if you’re looking for short-attention span quality entertainment.
