Scandinavians Slam Seattleites in Sipping Struggle

Today’s Post-Intelligencer has a quick piece on the opening of the US Barista Championships, hosted in our fair city and boasting 50% of its contestants from Washington State. But buried in the text is this bewildering claim:

…an American has never won the global contest, which has in large part been dominated by Scandinavians.

We had no idea. And that’s kind of embarassing. But a quick Google search turns up the shocking truth.

    that looks amazing, though the baristas at my regular morning espresso stand did not approve of making honey wasabi macchiator, even for the title.
