Just in case you were surprised by the arrival of March as we were (silly twenty-eight day February) — here’s a reminder that it’s the first Thursday of the month, when the Pioneer Square art galleries keep their doors open “late” so that you and your friends can wander around after work pointing at expensive pieces of art to see whether it passes the “would that look good in my apartment?” test.

With the improbably great weather, the artists who sell their wares in Occidental Park might even come out, providing you with the chance to buy something that won’t require a second mortgage or insurmountable credit card debt.

After dark, check out the artist lofts (we usually find good stuff in the lofts above SnoCon) and a performance of the Live Girls! cabaret. Each month, they put together a show based around a new theme. The shows are free, usually funny, and regularly complimented by inexpensive topical beverages and snacks. (8 and 9:30, 620 Alaskan Way).

If Belltown’s more your scene, the first Thursday meme has spread to other parts of town. For instance, Vain has been hosting their own events to showcase art. While you’re there, schedule a haircut or buy some local merchandise.

Sorry for the late notice. Finish that last expense report and get down there! Time is of the essence.
