You may have thought that we’d seen the last of them when the final pig was sold at auction, but the ____ on parade phenomenon has returned to our fair city. And just in time for this, the most wonderful time of the year, except in the form of ponies. Perhaps they’re intended to remind us of the expensive plastic shrouded carousel in century square, or maybe the folks at Wells Fargo thought that horses were more charming than swine, but they’re all over the city until January 2005.
Let the debate over the merits of painted prefabricated statuary as public art begin (again)!

I suspected that something of the sort was happening when I saw a tarted-up merry-go-round horse in front of the Wells Fargo on Olive between 7th and 8th the other night. That objet d’art public was, at least, reasonably attractive. This candy cane monstrosity, on the other hand … It’s the kind of thing that give impressionable children nightmares.
