Laboring on Labor Day
I work down by Boeing Field which is great for me since I love airplanes and am happy to spend my breaks in the parking lot watching planes take off and land. My workload is currently quite demanding so I end up spending a lot of time down there and I’ve noticed that while the traffic these days isn’t anything like it was when there were hundreds, if not thousands, of employees at Plant 2 around the clock, there’s still quite a bit of traffic.
Not today, though. Today there was so little traffic that I could have easily jaywalked East Marginal Way without having to fear for my safety, if I hadn’t taken that vow of no jaywalking after nearly getting myself killed back in June. The quiet was somewhat unsettling at first but as I made my way across the parking lot to my office I realized that I liked it–there’s something truly special about the way one minor change in the usual atmosphere can make you feel as if you’ve stepped into a whole new world.
