thursday agenda item

This week includes the first Thursday of the month, which means that the galleries in Pioneer Square will be staying open late (or later than usual) so that the after work crowd can stop by to wander, look at art, and sip wine. For the best free-to-almost-free food selection, we recommend keeping an eye out for artist lofts, which have a more informal feel.
Of particular note for this Thursday — it’s the first First Thursday for the Forgotten Works Gallery in their new space in the Tashiro Kaplan Building [artspace], which has been redeveloped to include galleries and 50 artist live/work spaces. Part of the first show is another Forgotten Works Challenge, in which 50 artists were given 30 days and 30 canvases . The resulting pieces will be displayed throughout the gallery and will be available for immediate purchase for $40. If previous challenges are any indication, the show is bound to include a variety of styles and is a great opportunity to support local artists by acquiring new decorations at an excellent price.
The Tashiro Kaplan Building is at 300 S. Washington: Arrive early for the best selection; stay late for the scene.

update: unexpectedly useful, the Seattle Weekly arts listings include some First Thursday events [sw].
