not exactly graffiti

non-significant trendwatch: cataloging d.i.y. sticker graffiti, installation #1!
somewhere between poster and tag, I’ve been seeing lots of hand drawn stickers on signs around town. I’m no expert on the tagging scene, but it seems like part of the thrill of writing would be the danger in creating on site. Is the sticker a sign of something else, or just another way of leaving a mark?

    Sitckering is really nothing new…In NYC it is just as big as everything else, pretty much. I think it’s just a fast easy way to spread your art. Ain’t nothing wrong with practicality….

    Stickers have been a part of the tagging at least since I started “writing” 14 years ago. The bonus of a sticker is that you can make copies of art on sticker paper and take a little more time than just scrawling out a tag. Also, you have more options of where to put a picture, since you can wrap them around poles and other hard-to-make-art-on objects.
